The
new Q42008...

Take a
look at that lineup. Now, granted, a couple of
these games have been out for a few weeks already, but
still. After a few months dominated by the indies,
this issue sees a return to form for the big, AAA
studios, pumping out their latest blockbusters. We
haven't seen the likes of this since our first issue.
This month's collection of big-name games are
exclusively impressive, but there are a handful of minor
disappointments working their way into the mix.
We'd have liked Resident Evil 5 to upset the
formula a little more (see Dawn of War II for a
lesson in that), and it would have been nice if The
Creative Assembly had taken another month or so to
polish up the latest in their Total War
series. Killzone 2's solo experience could
have been a lot more creative, as well, even though it's
online play packs more than enough punches.
To complain too much would be ridiculous, though.
The average mark awarded this month is a spectacular
81%. We're dealing with some seriously good
entertainment here, and any disappointment is only the
result of unreasonable expectations. With only a
couple of exceptions, the games reviewed in this issue
come heartily recommended. We just hope you've
enough coins lying around to get your fix.
A few more things of note: the forum is very much up and
running now, so do head over there to voice your opinion
about this issue, and anything else that might spring to
mind. There's also a new podcast - we had to
record it a bit earlier than we'd have liked this month,
so do excuse our not really knowing what we're talking
about when it comes to April's mag.
Next month looks very PC-heavy. If you're a
console games publisher and happen to be reading this
column, do send us some stuff to talk about. We
wouldn't want to flock solely to one format.
Either way, you'll be able to read what we've been
thinking on Monday 27th April.
Until that time arrives,
Lewis Denby
